Fall In Tampa Bay

09/16/2026

Fall in Tampa Bay does not arrive with changing leaves or a sudden drop in temperature. Instead, you notice it in the calendar.

September brings the return of football, October fills up with festivals and Halloween events, and by November, the holiday season begins to make its appearance. Between professional sports, local traditions, food festivals and cultural events, the next few months offer plenty of reasons to get out and explore.

For sports fans, the season starts early. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers open their 2026 regular season on September 13 before returning to Raymond James Stadium for home games against the Cleveland Browns on September 20, the Minnesota Vikings on September 27 and the Green Bay Packers on October 4. The Bucs will also host the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 18, the Atlanta Falcons on November 1 and the Carolina Panthers on November 30.

Hockey follows close behind. The Tampa Bay Lightning begin preseason play at home on September 20 against the Nashville Predators, with the regular season opening October 1 and the home opener set for October 3 against the Washington Capitals.

Outside the stadiums, fall brings some of Tampa Bay's most anticipated local events.

Oktoberfest celebrations begin in late September and continue into October, including Oktoberfest Tampa at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park October 9 through 11 and the Upper Tampa Bay Oktoberfest at Tampa Bay Downs October 16 through 18. Both offer live music, food and plenty of German-inspired festivities.

October also brings the Tampa Pig Jig to Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on October 17. The annual event combines live music, food and family-friendly activities while raising funds for families facing serious medical challenges.

For something a little different, the Tampa Bay Coffee & Art Festival returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds on October 24, bringing together local coffee roasters, artists, makers and vendors.

And, of course, October would not be complete without Halloween. Busch Gardens' Howl-O-Scream runs on select nights from September 12 through October 31, while Shimmering Lights' Kingdoms of Lights offers a family-friendly illuminated experience throughout October.

By November, the calendar begins shifting toward the holidays, with community festivals, seasonal markets and holiday attractions starting to appear throughout the region.

That is what makes fall in Tampa Bay so distinctive. The leaves may not change, but the calendar certainly does. Football fills the weekends, hockey returns downtown, festivals take over local parks and fairgrounds, and familiar Tampa Bay traditions begin another season.

For longtime residents, it is a chance to return to favorite traditions. For everyone else, it is a good excuse to discover something new.
